This week the belly is constantly getting bigger and the time of hiding is gone I guess. So it's probably best to dress it in tighter stretchy material from now on. Black is a good option for making it look less obvious too.
This week I told another one of my colleagues that I was pregnant. She couldn't believe it. When asked if they hadn't noticed my little belly she responded they had only noticed that my bum was bigger than before... Thank you, girls!
This week I have switched to maternity trousers (see second image). I must admit that they are a lot more comfy. But on the other hand they tend to slowly move down which I find quite annoying. But I guess that's the compromise you have to make...
My belly really starts popping out now. I put on one kilo in one week! But in my new CK shirt (see the photo in the middle) it's still not so obvious. The grey pants are one of the last pants of my pre-pregnant wardrobe. They are getting tight now. But I bought another pair of black jeans two sizes bigger than usual. They are low cut and fit under the belly. So they have to get me through the next months. And once they don't fit anymore either there are still tights and dresses...
Because I was so frustrated about maternity jeans (who wants to spend 200 US$ for a pair of jeans that don't fit well and look boring?) I bought a pair of stretch cord pants from ZARA two sizes bigger than what I usually wear. This will last for a couple of months I hope and afterwards I can probably wear my husband's pants. And they only cost me a fraction of the maternity jeans. Instead I invested in a CK jumper (the black one in the last photo) and a dress that I will still be able to wear after giving birth ...
The belly is getting bigger now. But I still have one pair of low cut jeans that fits underneath the belly. Stretchy items like jumpers and tees grow with the belly. So no need to buy maternity clothes for the upper body. You can find lots of other items that are a lot cheaper and more stylish. And wide shirts will also do for a few more weeks.
Now I have switched to all my elastic clothes. You can't really see the belly yet but most of my old trousers don't fit anymore. So I have only four trousers or so left over...
Hi! I'm a fashion lover turned pregnant. I'm documenting my 'progress' here and what I wear each week. Hope you like it and find some inspiration.
Here is my list of basic maternity clothes:
- Long shirts (elastic or floaty)
- Little dresses
- Trousers (maternity or oversized hip style) - Leggings and tights
- Small jackets and coats
- Boots, sandals and ballerinas
Voila, add your favourite accessories and there you go stylish mum-to-be! I found that dark colours such as black and navy let you look less big. Floaty upper parts work best with slim bottoms and the other way round. Don't wear too floaty clothes as they let you look more voluminous. It's better to show what you got.
It's not necessary to buy lots of maternity clothes. Just get one or two pairs of maternity trousers as they can't be beaten. From seven or eight months on highheels become more and more uncomfy so go for flat sandals and shoes instead. Add some accessories such as scarves and long necklaces to add some colour and distraction. You can always buy handbags!
Remember to exercise moderately in order to keep in shape and feel good. It also helps with the swelling and backpain (especially swimming is very good).
And now enjoy your pregnancy it's a wonderful almost spiritual time!
